Teaching Materials

There are currently three EEF videos available for download, each accompanied by three corresponding lesson plans.

All content is aligned with the Alberta social studies and science curricula, as detailed in the Curriculum Map and Detailed Curriculum Outline.

Video One: The Evolution of Energy and its Impact on the World

This animated video takes students on a journey from the origins of energy to the choices we face today, challenging them to think critically about:

• How can we balance access to energy to advance quality of life while protecting the environment?

• What kinds of future technology and innovations could impact energy use and environmental protection?

• How can we shape the future of our energy ecosystem?

Video Two: Energy and its Surprising Role in Your Life

This animated video takes students on a journey of their individual energy footprint, outlining the surprising ways they consume energy, challenging them to think critically about:

• What is the size of our energy footprint? What is it made up of?

• What can we do to reduce our energy consumption?

• What are some of the key decisions we can make to lead the charge to a more responsible future?

Video Three: Reducing Environmental Impact through Energy Innovations

This animated video takes students on a journey of exploring solutions to reducing carbon emissions, investigating the benefits and impacts of carbon sequestration, and examining the use of hydrogen and nuclear power as alternative energy sources, challenging them to think critically about:

• What measures can be undertaken to reduce carbon emissions?

• What are the environmental impacts of carbon sequestration?

• How can we effectively use hydrogen and nuclear power?

I find the videos and accompanying teaching resources extremely useful. The videos and teacher resources are excellent in exploring the many perspectives surrounding energy. They also provide many links to the Social Studies curriculum which provide teachers access to materials that can be used in the classroom. The videos are well balanced and encourage students to engage in critical thinking while exploring the complex issues surrounding energy usage around the world.

Energy Ecosystem Foundation continues to evolve.

Upcoming videos and lesson plans will address other important energy challenges, as outlined in the Video Roadmap.

Proposed topics include the following:

    • What is the Environmental Lifecycle Impact of Energy?

    • The Socio-Economic Realities of Energy

    • The Future of Energy

The students of today will be developing solutions to these challenges. We want to ensure teachers have the materials they need to provide students the ability to face these challenges with knowledge and insight.
